Hello All, Obviously we've been very busy here in the office because I JUST realized I never started the official discussion thread for the fall issue! This issue mailed to subscribers in early August, so most of you probably have it by now... and I want to know what you think! It was an honor to award the WCI Woodcarver of the Year Award to Tom Wolfe. He has influenced so many carvers and is just generally one of the good guys. Congrats Tom and we look forward to more great carving books from you! I love Sandy Smith's jack-o'-lanterns and might have to try one of those myself. Although the drilling part is a little intimidating to me. Maybe I can convince my hubby to do that part! The miniature scarecrow is on my must-do list - I fell in love with him at first sight (at last year's Conewago Carver's show.... Conewago Carvers East Berlin PA) and Gerald was kind enough to give me one of the little guys and write an article for us. I love fall - and Halloween. Although it was a little chilly out there this morning! Leah's squirrel is absolutely fantastic - but out of my skill range for now... maybe in the future. So let's have it - what did you like, what didn't you like? What has you eager to make woodchips? Your feedback helps me plan future issues..... so it's like voting.... if you don't speak up - I don't want to hear you complain. |

| I particularly enjoyed that article on wood spirit carving in cottonwood bark by Edward Otto. I carved several wood sprits myself but none in cottonwood bark. Some articles just inform some inform and inspire I want to try some cottonwood bark, of course put my own stank on it. |

I also like the halloween ornament but my wife insists I do the shelf elf for her and her cooking is better than mine so she wins

Liked the projects, thought the pumkin was very cute, and someone at our Thursday carving at the Woodcarft Shop in Bettendorf was making one last week. Thank you.
