I want the Fox as a tactile on the front so I have a chance to find it.

I took a look through my copies last night and did not see any that i would NOT have bought even if i did not have a subscription. One thing i did notice for the first time is that sometimes you have shown two (or even three) project pictures on the cover. If you want to try and attract the eye of both the "maybe intrested in woodcarving" and the "exsperienced but not familiar with the magazine carver" you could show two projects. I know it is to late to consider major change on this issue but for the future perhaps you could cosider the main cover picture a more complex carving like the Wolf, the insert being something like the 5 min wizard, a ball in cage, a letter opener etc. |

I don't care for either one of them. The whirlygig only appeals to a few, and there isn't much carving to do it.... a little rounding, etc. The wolf burning would make a nice article but I don't do wolves and that one looks like a dog to me anyway!! I love the magazine, but I am a caricature carver and that's what I look for in the magazine. Sharon |

what we are seeing -- is the difficulty that the publisher must have in deciding on the cover, what the content must be and how to keep the magazine on the cutting edge ( pardon the pun) all of the time-- to appeal to the large group of people that subscribe to the magazine, to appeal to the new comer that might like to subscribe and to needs a nudge to get there. we each are unique and we each would publish a somewhat different magazine if each of us were the publisher. but i willingly relinquish that responsiblity to WCI. my hat's off to this group--

I voted for the wolf cover. I am looking forward to that article as burning a carving is something that I want to learn. I personally think it shows a a nice woodcarving and a related topic to woodcarving. Can't say that the whirlygig article excites me much at all. I also understand you can't make everyone happy. I am a caricature and animal carver but enjoy articles on chip carving, realistic and relief carving as well. There are better mags for craft type project which the whirlygig seems to fit better. Of the two choices, I choose the wolf. However, I don't think either would appeal to the "unsubscriber". The whirlygig is too simple and the wolf is too difficult (for the beginner). The newstand cover needs a project that is inspiring (for the carver), yet do-able (for the wannabe carver) such as caricature animals ; where there is no "wrong" result.

I am a currrent subscriber and I probably would go more for the whirlygig cover not so much for that particular picture but more for the content listed in the issue. I would take the title "secrets to wrinkles" and add it to that cover also. I look more at what's in the magazine than I do the cover photo to decide whether I would buy or not.

I like both and they could both be covers on different months...if I had to choose, I suppose I would pick the wolf first...mostly because its closer to carving.....I like the whirlygig too and have built some, but they fall more into a craftwork thing than carving..which doesn't matter a bit LOL.....

The wolf was the one I voted for, only because the whirlygig was more woodwork than carving. However, that said, neither picture attracted me, but the articles listed with the wolf were more appealing to me. Keep up the good work and keep them coming.
