im intreagued as well. i looked at that lizard for a good amount of time.
i never found a miscut on it, all the tapered dimples on the tail, (i suspect) done with a diamond bit ... dental burr
a more art educated person may have a better name for the process to produce the pimply looking dots om the neck,
but it can be achieved by pressing a rounded tool into the wood compacting the wood fibers inward then sand the finish surface to remove the dimples, once smooth you wet the surface with warm water, causing the compressed wood to swell back to its original state nearly...
but as the carver said he takes 2-3 months on one of his minatures so i dont think he would risk wood cracking by wetting the wood, try it on a scrap...
he also talks about all the hand made tools he made out of needles and toothpicks? maybe a special mini gouge?
