Default Santa Brings Home the Christmas Tree..

Holiday 2008 #45, pgs 64-67. (Mark Akers design)

Nice Santa, would have liked a few 'cut' descriptions on carving the face, especially the eyes. Obviously this pattern is not a beginner's piece. I think a few more people would be tempted to try this had you included just a few tips there. I feel I'm at an intermediate level and I am just not quite sure I could do it justice without a bit more instruction.

Default Thanks Mark..

Thank you for your offer. I posted my comment because I felt there must be other carvers out there that looked that article over and decided not to attempt it for the reason I mentioned.. I think I can carve the rest of it without much problem (I hope anyway). Just a heads up for the editors, not saying I'm right but that's my opinion anyway.
I am lucky that I am hanging around here and you are generous enough to advise me if I have problems. ..so I will go check my wood and see about cutting a blank.

the thing i see about carvers in general-- they are very willing to share their knowledge-- even those who earn aliving from carving-- such a nice group of people. i have found only a few other groups so inclined----i have chosen not to do the piece, because of time between now and xmas-- but afterwords-- look out !!

Mark has been very generous in offering me help and even given me some more pics to go by. I will not attempt this until after Christmas either.
