| | Re: Reading the Magazine Hubby brings the mail in when he gets home from work, I'm getting ready to start supper then, so I just go through it quickly at that time....can never let it lay unopened, no matter what's going on at the time!! Later I go through it again, a lot slower!
My problem has become, too many back issues piled up and no idea where whatever I want to reference is....let alone remember there might be something I could reference!!
So.....I've done something lots of you will think is terrible.....but......I love it!! I bought a large three ring binder, card stock paper, index tabs and see through pocket pages. I have gone through all my back issues, removing everything I think I might ever possibly have need of. I paste the individual things on the card stock paper ($5.00 spent on a three hole punch was money very well spent!), articles are put in the see through pocket pages so I can see both sides of the page.
I use the index tabs to categorize everything, Sharpening tips, Painting tips, etc., etc.
Any guilt I felt at tearing the first magazine apart is gone, replaced by the knowledge I can actually find and use all the great things that are in all my back issues! I hope the good folks at WCI can find it in their hearts to forgive me! Deborah

| | Re: Reading the Magazine Callynne, I had considered doing something similar; but, came up with an alternative. I use my scanner…….a lot. I am not sure of the legal ramifications; but, since it is for my own use….who’s gonna fuss at me? I have started going through magazines (carving and otherwise) and scanning articles and photos (or just the parts I need) onto my computer. I am now starting to try and learn Word to the point that I can compile, index, and footnote the material I am accumulating. I am hoping it will make things a little easier than using the 3 ring binders that are taking up increasing amounts of space. |

| | Re: Reading the Magazine Like others, I:
1. Skim it quickly the first day I get it--front to back
2. Go back and read it, front to back--usually takes a week because I read while I relax and eat breakfast.
3. After it's read, I go back and, using 3M post-it tabs, label each article I want to locate quickly--things I want to try, or articles that will help me with a project.
4. I sometimes take an issue to bed with me for bedtime reading--or when I go on road trips/to overnight meetings and want something to read.
5. I have never, ever seen a fox in my WCI. Really believe they are printed with invisible ink that doesn't start showing until the next issue comes out. 2-3 times a year, I sort them and all my carving publications by date and publication, and file them in the bookcase so I can easily find them when I go looking for something specific. I may flip through 2-3 years worth of them when I'm looking for inspiration for a new carving.

| | Re: Reading the Magazine While I absolutely look at damn near everything in the magazine, I just do not understand this "lookin for the Fox thing". I look at all the ailments I have, and if there is a common denominator to them all its stress. Stress elevates blood pressure, sugar, etc, etc. Receiving, looking at, and reading the magazine is an anticipated relaxation, and lowers the stress levels. If I were to try and find the fox in each issue; I would probably have to increase my B/P medication as well as the others. But then I don't understand those who work crossword puzzles, jig saw puzzles, or chip carve.

| | Re: Reading the Magazine Paul, that's a great idea! I too started out trying to save them all in binders, you're right, the binders accumulate too much also. I'm trying to become more organized in my old age! Actually, I'm sick and tired of looking for things I can't find or buying more of things I already have, but can't find or, worse yet, have totally forgotten I even bought!! Deborah
