| | Re: Reading the Magazine Hey BobD,
Is TomH trying to get paid for his post ;O). Maybe he is just testing to see if there would be any interest in Tom putting out a DVD on reading WCI, LOL. Maybe its just me but I look at the pictures, see what interests me and read that, then wait for the next issue.

| | Re: Reading the Magazine Each new issue appears by my chair ready for reading. My wife, though not a carver, likes to look at the carvings. She says, "If it reaches the pile by your chair before I read it.....it's gone forever...."
1st: look at the cover and highlights mentioned.
2nd: a quick skim of the issue stopping to look at and read the captions of interesting pics.
3rd: read first few pages (includes letters, tips, etc.) and last few pages (calendar, short articles, etc.)
4th: read any biographical articles.
5th: in-depth reading of interesting carving articles.
6th: look at advertisements to see what new might be mentioned. |

| | Re: Reading the Magazine 1.Browse through the whole magazine.
2.Go back and look at projects I liked the looks of in #1.
3.Go back and look over the other articles.
4.Read other articles of interest.
5.Again, back through to see if there are any new suppliers and or tools not noticed while doing #1, 2, 3 &4.
6.Leave magazine laying around to read other stuff that I may not have immediate interest in, but hey, I might later. It's all carvin' right?!

| | Re: Reading the Magazine I go through it cover to cover, then read most of it. I keep it by my chair and go through it some more, showing my wife the carvings that interest me/us (same for Chip Chats). I "think" I've really read each issue, and I "know" I've at least looked at the entire magazine. However, I've been working on a new big project for this summer and grabbed a bunch of back issues to scan through them for ideas. I'm convinced some of those issues must have snuck in the back door and gone straight to the archive! I didn't even recognize the cover! But what a treasure! It's like re-reading one of the best novels you've ever read, but not remembering anything about it. I guess I should start taking notes. Mike |

| | Re: Reading the Magazine First I look for Ducks. Then I go page by page playing "Carve/Wouldn't Carve. Breaking each carving/article down, would I carve this, could I carve this, would I want to carve it if I had the ability. Then I look for tech tips, tool ideas and letters to the ed. Then I drool over the tools I'd add to my shop.

| | Re: Reading the Magazine I'm always thrilled when my WCI magazine arrives. I don't always have the time to look at it right away. I hadn't really thought about how I looked at it until now.
After opening the magazine I look at the 'In This Issue', then move on page by page. Not reading each article right away, but looking at the pictures. Then I go back and read the articles that interest me. I also like to look at the 'calendar of events' for shows in my state of Arizona. Probably, lastly I like to look at the advertisements.
The magazine is well put together and a easy read I keep all my WCI magazine's. You never know when a past issue might just have what you are looking for to carve. Even, give you help with a particular problem dealing with wood finishing and tool sharpening.
