| | Reader's Poll Hi everyone,
I'm sure you see the new reader's poll in the left column. We're going to be changing the poll on a regular basis...its just to get a sense of our readership...so be sure to vote!

| | Re: Reader's Poll I should vote twice, actually. I used to have time to carve 13+ hours a day. Now I'm lucky to get in a couple hours a day. |

| | Re: Reader's Poll Well, can't see taking the poll. It would not be right at this time. Been back and forth with Mom at one hospital or another. Right now, she's in one approx. 80 miles away. Sheeeeeesh! It really takes a great deal out of a person when they have to take care of someone, especially an elder. I still can't figure out how she raised two of us, kept a marriage, took care of her Aunt and Uncle and remained sane. They sure don't make em like that no more. Maybe when she gets better (?), then I could be honest. I remember when I carved every free second I had available.......it took up all of my spare time.

| | Re: Reader's Poll Bob,
Does spending time on the message board count as carving? Or more to the point, would you count doing research and reading magazines, doing sketches or a mock up, or getting the "right" piece of wood, etc count. I envy those carvers that can sit down and carve from plans they have in their heads. But; I do a lot more putzing around than actual carving, and I guess that is why I am still a beginner. But once I begin, I get into that 8-12 hour range. I think my point is that I go hot and cold all of the time.
I also think it goes without saying that we all have other issues such as health, family, stuff that breaks when you are at the peak of inspration that redirects your perspiration.
Just thinking out loud.

| | Re: Reader's Poll I understand what you're sayin Brent....same with me, but I still manage to carve just about everywhere. Yesterday I pulled out the pocket knife and started on a small piece at the hospital while mom was gettin a CAT scann. I carve so much at moms nursing home that some of the folks are leavin me messages for some of the little Santa's. There's always a place to carve. Shoot, drivin down the highway I see people readin while they drive, eatin, doin their hair, shavin, and a whole lot more stuff...Haven't noticed anyone carvin while drivin ....yet! My goal is to increase my carvin time from 8 to 12 hours a week, to about 30. But that's only a little over 4 hours a day!
