Default Lancaster County Woodcarvers Show

We hosted our first ever spit and whittle at the show and it went pretty well! I carved my very first relief carving (thanks Herlene Iobst) and then was lucky enough to take a class with Jan Oegema on carving a garden chair (we ran an article about this project in WCI previously). Had tons of fun! I'll post more pics when I get them downloaded - here's one of our class with our finished projects.... I used a Lora Irish pattern from her woodspirit book and modified it a bit.

Shannon, it is great to see your carving project which is well done. See, it is more fun to carve than it is just publishing a magazine about carving. Once you get a taste of "chips" you can not just stop with one, so "Happy Carving" as the "Journey" has just begun.

He must be a good teacher as everyone did a great job and it is interesting that each one is different.

Thumbs up Re: Lancaster County Woodcarvers Show

Wow! Those chairs look great and I like the way that y'all cut out the upper parts of the seat backs. I never thought of doing that and it really adds a neat touch. I made the woodspirit chair from the article you ran a few years ago and it sold at our fund raiser auction for $125.00. Thanks for the picture!

Nice Shannon! Maybe we'll see you at NEWR this year? I've always wondered why WCI wasn't represented there considering it's only a few hours away from you. George, Nick, the other teachers and the folks at Cherry Ridge are fantastic folks and do a great job. Perhaps you'd want to do a story on it?

This will be my 4th year going and I can't recommend them enough for new carvers looking for a jump start. Especially if you don't have a club nearby.

Cheers! And great job on that woodspirit chair. Now - were you using mainly palm gouges? <grin>

These are photos taken during the seminars immediately following the show.

(We have a project from Bob Stadtlander coming up in the holiday issue and Don Dearolf has a great little Santa coming up in the fall issue!)
