Talking Hugh Parks DOVE!

I am so carving the new dove from Hugh Parks in this issue~! Thank you so much for adding a power carved bit to the publication. There may have been some in the past, but this one stood out as power carved and I am very happy to see it. The great thing is a lot of folks could hand carve it as well. Thanx again-this will be a great addition to my holiday display! I can't wait to crackle paint - antique - and fairy dust it!

Keoma, I too was happy to see Hugh's dove. I have two of them band sawn from tupelo and plan on doing the carving over the next few days.

As you say, it should not take long. This is a very nice, very simple, carving. Just the type that I need for an important project.

I am carving Christmas ornaments to sell for a very special organization called the Malawi Childrens Village. Supported and staffed mainly by former Peace Corps Volunteers (who have returned to Malawi, East Africa) and have joined with local Malawians; MCV cares for over 3,000 children that have been orphaned...primarily by AIDS. This is managed by caring for several hundred (primarily infants) at the "Malawi Childrens Village"; but, have expanded the program by copying our foster care system.

They support villagers who are willing to care for and raise orphans by supplying seed, farming implements, and even food during times of famine. Of course, support is also going directly to the orphans in the form of clothing, school supplies, tuition, etc.

This project allows me to maintain direct contact with one of the most pivotal events in my life. My Peace Corps service was in Malawi ('63-'65).

Anyway, I am always on the lookout for something that carves fast and, yet, is extra special.......like this dove.

I don't think I will have time, to many projects going already and I have just been to busy to work on them very much. I was also thinking if it was done smaller it would make a nice pin.

OH OH OH OH OH!!!!! I am as we speak...twisting a metal coat hanger on a mandrel...Instead of an ornie hook at the top...AHA! It is going to be a tree topper!!!!!
I made it with a really wide base, so it can also sit on a table or a mantle surrounded by greens. He he he he...This is a great and versatile project!
