I'd like something like that also. It would give me a chance to try something new. Everyone at work keeps asking me "Don't you ever carve anything but Santas?". I do, but that's about all they ever see me doing at work.

that works for me. don't get me wrong santa carvers on this board are great at what they do. but lets throw these old dog for a loop and get them out of the comfort zone. a halloween contest or maybe even easter, or some other holiday would be good.

Check for carving shows, or carving clubs in your area. Most have pumpkin carving contests that are a hour long along with thier carving show.
Our club's show in Golden Colorado is next weekend. We have a pumpkin carving contest every year. If you cannot find one in your area, come on out to Colorado and join on in on are pumpkin carving contest!

One thing is for sure, You don't need a contest to carve something besides Santas.

I think with the limited amout of people that puts WCI and the Scroll magaine out, we should feel lucky they sponsor the Santa contest.
Thank you Mark for letting us all know about the show and the pumpkin contest.

Or how about a contest for Independance day? Its six months away , after the Santas are done.. and theres lots of ideas one can do with this Independence theme. ?

But lil mini challenges in the forums would be fun too.. Anything to get ideas flowing again.

I agree. A Halloween, or Independence Day, or almost any other holiday. Doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive: WCI staff could be the judges, award the winner choice of a couple of Fox Chapel books, and give the runner up one book...
