This may sound a little like tooting my own horn... but I just have to share how much I appreciate the gesture... At the International Woodcarver's Congress, the Caricature Carvers of America presented me with a plaque thanking me for supporting the CCA and for our efforts with the First Cuts article series. First of all - the pleasure was all mine - it was so much fun "meeting" each CCA member and learning about their journey in woodcarving. While some of the members' "first" carvings were wonderful - I really enjoyed the ones where those first carvings were - um... rustic. It gave me hope that I can grow my carving skills. And that was the intention of the article.... to get to know these accomplished carvers a bit better and to realize that everyone is a beginner at one point! It's always a bit nerve wracking when you publish an article... will the author be happy with the way we presented the material? Will the readers like it? To receive this kind of acknowledgement from the CCA members brings joy to my heart. I want to thank my team - Bob Duncan and Jon Deck. Without their tireless efforts, we'd never get a single issue off to print, and they are just as responsible for the First Cuts series as I am. I hope you guys enjoyed the First Cuts articles as much as we did - we plan to bring you more inspiring stories from other accomplished carvers... But it was the CCA that helped us launch the series - and for that I'm very thankful. |

That was a well deserved award Shannon. It's a clever series that I believe is enjoyed by many of us.
