Thanks, Shannon! I was also thinking of tracing the pattern after cutting the first side...but the article acted as if you wouldn't need to do that....hence my confusion.

Bob, I understand starting with the pattern on two sides, but when you cut along the perimeter lines on one side, don't you lose the perimeter lines on the other? The picture in WCI shows what you have after cutting the lines, and the perimeter lines you drew on at the beginning appear to be gone.

What am I missing?

Sorry...It's Monday morning and I'm a little dense. It's the order you cut the sides in.

Start by drawing the design onto the two sides. Then make the angled cuts that will cut off the sides that are NOT marked. Then cut one of the marked sides. Then use the pattern to remark the remaining side to cut. Use the already cut side and the branch cuts to align the pattern correctly.

That makes sense, I think. Thanks, Bob. I'll give it a go in the next couple weeks!

Ok, Michele, just talked with Bob Mason (the author of the article).

He suggests that you make a few measurements to redraw the pattern onto the blank.

In step 1, Bob said to draw centerlines onto the top of the block. Once you cut the profiles (and lose your drawing lines), you still have that centerline. Measure 3/16" out from the centerline on both sides. Draw a line from this mark down to the bottom corner of the blank. Then you can use the wedge and cut along these lines. I've attached a photo from Bob that didn't make it into the article, but shows how he has redrawn the lines.

You're welcome! And we apologize for the confusion! Sometimes you just don't see those things when editing an article and then someone points it out and it's one of those "Doh!" moments...
