| | Carving Exchange I was wondering if it would be possible to do a carving exchange on this board. Possibly have all of those interested in making a trade make a post, and then if someone wanted to trade with them, PM them and arrange the trade. It wouldn't necessarily have to work that way, but it would be nice to be able to increase ones collection by trading with others on the board.
Hey Bob, would this be possible? Anyone interested?????

| | Re: Carving Exchange Yeah, I was thinking that if someone was wanting to build a collection of carvings from people who are on this board, they could make a post to a forum that says: "I have a finished Santa that I would like to trade, who would be interested" and those people who have something finished could trade a carving for that carving. I think the idea is inspired by the ornament swap because I think that is a blast, but it would be great to be able to have a way to swap throughout the year with those people who want to build a collection and enjoy carving, but don't necessarily sale everything that they carve. I know there are several people on this board that I would like to have a carving from for my collection, but I don't see any way of getting one other than making a trade or offering to buy something if they have something up for sale.
What do you all think????? |

| | Re: Carving Exchange Dave, I think Blake is saying that if a carver carves a piece and wants to trade that one for someone elses carving then those two make the trade based on both agreeing to the trade. Pictures would be exchanges between the two Carvers. Anywyay that was my thinking. Not like the ornament swap where there would be 10 to 15 carvers tradeing carvings. That would be a little much to my thinking. Then too, maybe I have it wrong. |

| | Re: Carving Exchange i have often thought of such a thing,
not only for collecting but in the learning experience, pictures are fine but holding someones carving in your hands you see much more and are able to study it in its details.
its not that im such a good carver,
my interests are peaked by what others are doing, and how they did that..
in this exchange would there be a standard of size? may not be fairly excepted for a carver to trade a 12" carving for a miniature... unless both folks are aware.
I loved the carve arounds that rick in seattle did and have wondered how we could get some of those going again. but there was only one winner
the exchange everybody would win...
but you got to have guidelines and rules,. or it wont work becuse of one gloomy guss... or jelouis joliene. |

| | Re: Carving Exchange Yeah, that's what I had in mind too. It would just be nice if we had a way, through this forum, to be able to do some exchanges amongst eachother. Yes, we could go to another site and make some trades, but it wouldn't be with the people we interact with on this board. If you are like me, I visit this board often, but very rarely visit the other carving boards. I can think of several people on here that I would like to receive carvings from for my collection and think that the exchange would be an excellent avenue. Like Thomp said, it could be for pleasure as well as a learning experience.
What do you think?

| | Re: Carving Exchange Heh heh - hey Colin - all you need is one of those "Honey I Shrunk The Kids" machines. Either that or you'll have to put down the chainsaws and come over to the "dark side" of carving with knives and small gouges. !
