| | Re: book-bindings fail Thanks Bob! It's nice to have a direct line to the publisher!
Another thought would be that if you can't switch to spiral bindings any time soon, how about a slightly larger margin on the side of the page where the binding goes so that if we need to have it spiral bound at some point, we wouldn't have to worry about losing info.
Thanks again,

| | Re: book-bindings fail I was aware of this problem with magazines. Personally, I doubt there will be a glue that can hold against that kind of use.
Now, if I need to keep referring to something in one of these type publicatons, I scan it as a JPEG and then print it as needed. This also allows me to crop and to enlarge, etc. Working real well for me and saves my magazines and books. |

I've made books of money....When its my grandkids birthday we get band new dollars bills and stack them as perfect as I can and use two 1/4 inch thick 8 inch long peices of wood and clamp it together put glue on the long side ( top) after they dry, the kids have a book of dollars and when they want to spend it. then they tear out one dollar at a time ............I've done this with books like you discribe put glue on the end (the part thet came unglued) clamp it together when the glue drys ....I HAVE A JUST LIKE NEW BOOK. I CHALANGE YOU TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE FROM A NEW ONE. ......thats what I do.

| | Re: book-bindings fail Kenny,I wasn't talking about the wci magazine but rather an actual carving book. you know the ones for us guys without imaginations who still like to carve. I think if chapel switched to spiral bindings I would very grateful, might even be worth a couple bucks extra.Arnie |

| | Re: book-bindings fail The spiral bindings tend to be somewhat fragile - extreme weather (like the cold warehouse) makes them brittle and they crack. Also - bookstores hate them, because as someone mentioned - it makes it hard to tell what the book is when it's on the shelf. We have tried a "hidden spiral binding" where there is an actual cover over the binding - but they can get expensive.
We are aware of it and are always open to suggestions and ideas for improvement! |

| | Re: book-bindings fail In all fairness, as far as the books I own, the only ones that the binding has failed have been from Schiffer. They seem to have a quality control problem. None of my Fox Chapel books have failed. But I would still like to see a spiral binding. I understand the book store issue. Plastic bindings are terrible. Spiral Wire Bound are not fragile, and not significantly more expensive than the plastic. For the best example in existence, please look at Marv Kaisersatt's book. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
