Default Between issues of WCI

What to do between issues? The current issue of WCI has been gone over….several times. BobD says the next one won’t be mailed ‘til early Feb. That month won’t start for a week, early could mean it would be pushing the end of the second week, USPS….well no estimate there. Wow, could be about a month!

Luckily I have all of my periodicals stored in holders along a shelf above my carving table. They get pretty mixed up as I seek out reference material. Now and then (once a decade Diana claims) I put them back into chronological order.

The other day I was grumbling about Diana getting one of her magazines each week. She pointed out that I subscribed to four woodcarving magazines. “Yeah, but none of them are even monthly,” I pointed out. “So read one of the old ones,” she replied. “I’ve almost memorized them, I’ve read them so much,” I advised. “Your collection goes back forever, read one of the old ones,” she said in a tone that left unsaid, “….and go away and let me read my magazine in peace.”

Still being of somewhat sound mind, and recognizing warning signs (41 years of experience leads to that), I retreated to paradise…..my carving bench. I looked up at the long line of books. I have complete collections of the most recent two magazines, the “bird one” goes back to the early ‘90’s, and Chip Chats…..well, waaaaay back. “Might as well use this interim to put them back in order, ” I mumbled to myself.. “All of those, must be a hundred of them up there and nothing to read!” I thought.

My Frien’s, the dictionary says that an epiphany is “a comprehension or perception of reality by means of a sudden intuitive realization.” That sounds kinda hi falutin, but it is what happened………and I strongly recommend it. I decided to start with the first issue and read them all over again.

Now and then I hit an article that I have either read recently for reference, or one so memorable that it is still familiar; but, there are also those that I forgot, or skipped over because of lack of interest at that time. So, my Frien’s, don’t grab the recent issue of WCI and hope that there is something in there that you have missed. Start reading them all over again. It’s almost as good as getting a new issue.

I find myself doing the same thing. Perhaps we could try to get these publishers to put things out on a schedule that gets us one magazine a month se we won't have to wait so long.
