Hi Bob and Shannon, I have a question, I know you turn a lot of articles down for a lot of reasons. But would it be possible to have some of them that get turned down posted to the forum? I mean ones that don't fit into the mag , but ones like Susan's on Colin? They would be great to help fill in time between releases. Just a question. Garry |

I would think (though I may be totally wrong here) that this is more up to whether the author wants to share the article on here for free or not. i.e. The author wrote the article (I imagine) with the intent to get it published and possibly earn a few $ doing so. If the magazin turns it down, the author is free to try to sell it to one of the other mags. Or am I wrong in this, and these special interest mags don't pay for articles? In any case, I see nothing that prevents an author from posting their rejected material here just like Susan did. No? Just curious too. ChuckT |

yes - it would basically be up to the author. If we turn an article down - the author is free to do whatever they want with it - sell it to another magazine, post it on the internet.... Once an article is submitted by an author, there is a lot of work that goes into it on our end - editing, proofreading, photo touch up, photography, layout, more editing, and proofreading... It's not as simple as taking a rejected an article and posting it. And usually at the rejection stage - there is no article - just an idea and/or a photo of a completed project. The author does not actually write the article until it has been accepted for publication. (In a few cases - we do receive complete articles submitted for consideration - but I would say that is probably less than 10% of the article submissions) And yes, our authors are compensated for their articles - Certainly nobody is going to get rich by having an article published - but for a lot of authors, it's not just the money - it's the recognition and of course sharing with the community - so I would think that some folks might be interested in posting their article if it didn't make it to print - but it's entirely up to them as individuals and not something we can do as a company - we have no claim or ownership of rejected articles... Does that make sense? |
