| | Re: Advertisements Shannon,
I've received a lot of trade magazines over the years both at work, the squad, and carving/woodworking. I have to say that the WCI ad format makes the most sense. and is probably the best I've seen so far.
My biggest peeve with any magazine is that there are advertisements, but that is what allows the magazine exist at a reasonable cost to the subscriber. The next one is the layout having them all over the place, especially with two of three pages of ads in the middle of an article--very much like what Reader's Digest does. The final one is when a magazine does have ads, and doesn't provide an index of the advertisers--I hate having to pay to hunt for a fox and not find it, but having to hunt for an advertiser to spend more money--well that's a bummer. Fortunately, you have an index and it is a big help. Thank you!
My only suggestion is to keep doing what you're doing. |

| | Re: Advertisements I only noticed with the last issue that the ads were all grouped together at the front and towards the back. I think it's a great idea.
Nothing I hate more than in the middle of an article is having to turn to page such and such because the next 3 pages have ads on them.
I do read the ads in the magazine to see what new stuff I need, which for me is something I don't do with other types of magazines. I don't think there are too many ads either. I just think it may be someones perception because they're all bunched together and not spread out throughout the magazine.
I just say keep up the great work. It's definitely one magazine I look forward to.

| | Re: Advertisements I agree with the comments being made. I need the ads. When I started carving there were only a few providers of supplies. Not only are there now many of them; but, improvements in supplies come along at a rapid pace. Advertisements are one way of keeping up with all of this.
One of the main comments I made when the two "newcomer" carving magazines appeared was on the advertisement. I used to look forward to the annual issue of Chip Chats which listed purveyors of carving supplies. But, it was not fun working my way through the "classified ad" format. It was great when magazines appeared that had advertisements in each issue.
It's nice to go through the venerable old Chip Chats. No advertisements in the way. But, if you eliminate the "Club" articles, very little in the way of useful information for most carvers. The pictures of who is doing what are nice; but, if I had to drop one of my carving magazines, it would be the first.
Keep up the good work. Right now I have no suggestions for improvement.......well, I know it would be impossible; but, monthly issues would be nice! |

| | Re: Advertisements I think you do a great job on the magazine and prefer the ads grouped too....people need to realize the expense and time and salaries etc involved in an operation and the ads are a necessity to help produce income....just keep the trash ads out please and I am sure you will, you know the viagra etc........no place here for that. imho |

| | Re: Advertisements The advertisers are what keeps a magazine going. I think most people like looking at the ads, I do. If they were grouped front and back, would readers even look at them or just go to the "meat" and skip the ads. Being scattered between articles I think sort of forces one to look at it. My lloyaltys would have to be with the advertisers knowing what they pay verses the cost of a subscription. Carvers are going to subcribe anyway.

| | Re: Advertisements No complaints about the ads from me.
I usually sit down in front of my computer after I've read the magazine through a couple of times and visit the web sites of your advertisers as well as read the ads. If your advertisers could trace the direct hits from that source, I think they would be pleased.
I consider it more relevant information from the magazine.
