I use a 3/8" bit and a small drill press on some other publications...and don't see the big deal here. The current holes are nice but these days businesses need to be run like businesses more than ever.

It was earlier stated as $20,000 a year or $5,000 per issue, and yes it is a significant amount , but compared to what, the total publication cost per issue etc?
Frankly as someone else said maybe the original question could have been have worded differently, to me though it is maybe a question like the one that asks for a simple " Yes" or "No" answer to "Have you stopped beating your wife?"
Whatever your choice you lose.

I am a member on two other completely different types of forums, one professional and the other for a volunteer organization. Though my brothers on the other forums are fine people, I have to make this claim for WCI forum members. This is the finest, most warm-hearted, easy-to-get-along-with group of people on the web. I constantly refer to how you conduct yourselves here when there is some turmoil on the other forums. I can't believe anyone I have met here would allow an inevitable business decision to chase him/her away from fellowship with friends and helping carvers. You folks are too big for that. I'm not afraid of anyone being "runnofd" (isn't that the way they spelled it in Oh Brother?). Thank you to WCI for the magazine and all you do, and thank you to the forum brothers and sisters for being so decent.

This is just a slightly related, interesting note, since the subject is drilled holes. I always wanted to find a loose leaf Bible, but never found one I could look at before ordering (they're not cheap). My wife found one in a thrift store and presented it proudly to me; she knew she had found a real treat for me. When we looked at it closely, we found someone had taken apart a regular bound Bible (stitched), hole punched all the pages, and collated them in the six ring binder. They did a great job, but I can just imagine how long it took this person to finish the job. There are a lot of pages to punch and get confused in a Bible. I thought that might be an interesting story.
