Default 2006 Santa Contest

I've looked on the web site and only see the 2005 Santa Contest link. Will there be a 2006, and when will it be?

Unfortunately, there will not be a 2006 contest. Woodcraft has decided not to continue the contest. Wood Carving Illustrated will be sponsoring our own Santa Carving Contest for 2007. Entries will be due September 1, 2007. Check out the Holiday issue for more details.

Shannon,

Compliments to Fox Chapel for continuing the tradition of the Santa contest. This event gets Fox Chapel a lot of buzz in the carver community. Look forward to the 2007 event!

I don't understand why Woodcraft would not continue it! I think it was a great outlet for the woodcarving community to promote their skills and craft. I too aplaude you all at WCI for continuing the contest! I'm sure it will make for great publicity!

The stores are franchises and some of the stores would not cooperate and participate, like the phoenix store.......so guess they decided to quit....there was a lot of talk going around about fixed contests, not sure where that came from or who started it, but sometimes its better for a companies rep. to just stop...maybe thats what happened? I entered last year, had no problem with who won....was the best on in my opinion Cowboy naturally there are always rumors going around about everything anymore......you hear the one about the alphbet soup lol

Seriously, Thank you WCI forContinuing the contest.

I was fortunante to see Rusty Johnson's santa carving in person and thought his was one of the best. But agrree with Dave, the one that won was great. But Dave's was a gzreat one also.

I don't know about the contest at each store being rigged or not, but if they were, it is a shame. Look at the damage they cause if they were rigged.

I have not heard any rumors about the contest being fixed. There are always hurt feelings when your carving - or the one you thought should win - doesn't win.

I think part of the problem was trying to coordinate with all the stores and some stores not wanting to participate - I didn't get anything official, but I think it just became too much for them to manage. We're going simplify things with folks just sending photos instead of sending the actual carving. I know Woodcraft had a lot of problems with damaged carvings in their wildlife contest and we certainly don't want to be responsible for damage incurred to anyone's masterpiece.
