Sorry for the wait I haven't had the time to work on getting the next videos up, or really do any carving. In the next couple of days I hope to get the carving process videos up, I know a few of you have been asking me when, it will be soon hopefully. If you get bored waiting go to Del's website there is a lot of excellent information there. Pinewood Forge Scandinavian Knives Carl

Carl, are you sure you need to sleep and all? Oh wait, guess shooting a video in the dark wouldn't be so good. Alright I guess we can wait.. Seriously, it is great that you are taking the time to do the video's & share. I don't know how you get as much done as you do. I have two knives coming from the Pinewood site you have linked too! :-) |

New. This my first post. Most interested in spoons to compliment turned bowls that I already do. From your videos I got to Del and have four knives coming. Waiting for your other videos. Seeing as how you've already cost me about $200, I need to get on with the spoons. However, 6 hours sleep is important, I think the amount of sleep I've lost has made me old. LOL |

Well I am waiting for the the first part of the carving videos to upload, youtube is so slow or my internet is so slow. I have the next two parts filmed and thinking the carving/finishing process will take about 5 or 6. I am aslo planning to go get some linseed oil and give that a try. What type of wood do you turn your bowls from? I dabble in turning bowls but mainly make lidded boxes and pens/pencils. Carl

I like your tutorials because you don't just sit there and 'Blah Blah Blah'..talk. You are very concise and informative without alot of wasted time. They are very easy to learn from. Thanks!

For turned bowls I use free green local woods - road kill. I get most of it from a tree service. Would you believe it costs $32 a ton to put wood in the local dump. Unfortunately the most popular trees available are oak and pine. My preferred woods are cherry or bradford pear. My lathe can handle 20" diameter so I go as big as I can get. I'm thinking of clear no figure soft maple, small fruit woods, and selected scrubs for spoons which will increase the range of woods I'm interested in. As to types of wood available, I'm in Northern Virginia. Off to see the two new video this message string seems to indicate or now up. Thanks for the videos. |
