Talking Spoon carving Video tutorial

Here is the start of the spoon carving tutorial I was asked to do, I decided it would be better to be a video tutorial then a step by step picture. I am busy with a lot of stuff right now so this will be a work in progress. The first part of the video has been uploaded with a number to still be filmed. This first video in 2 parts covers sawing a basic rough blank with a bandsaw. The next videos will include making spoon blanks for power carving from already dried lumber and also a video on sawing spoon crooks and how to get the figuring into the spoons bowl. After those I will begin the carving videos include cuts, grips, designs, and tools.

Part two is on the way youtube must be getting overloaded with people uploading is what Gene told me so it's slow. I need to go out and find a nice spoon crook do do the video covering that.

Thanks Corey

Hey Carl, being as I'm on phone line I just spent a great hour watching your video. "WELL DONE" I have a truck full of White birch comming in the morning, hoping to cut some for spoons, wasn't quite sure how to do it, now I know, thank you. Tell me Carl, what kind of wood was that you used in the video and was it dry or green?

Carl:

Just watched your first two videos. Excellent work! You're not only an excellent carver, you're an excellent videographer as well. I've just finished my first three "eating" spoons, and my issue is design. My first was awfully clunky, my second less so, and my third is pretty usable. I'll post photos soon. I'm working toward a good design for a cereal spoon. Since I don't have a bandsaw, I rough out my spoons with "Baby" (no, not an axe). I'll post pictures of her when I post my spoons.

I can hardly wait to see your next videos!

Thanks Sharon and Bob I am glad they where educational, my brother Leonard did the filming he also does most of the photography when both of my hands are in the picture.

Bob I am planning an entire video focused on design.
Sharon don't worry about where to put the saw that bandsaw was a gift to me and my brother when we first started carving and it was in our living room for 9 months until my mother said enough dust in the house you guys are building a shop.

Hi Carl,

Thanks for doing the videos. They're very instructional. I really like the way you did the mirror image pattern.

Thanks Ron, Del Stubbs said the exact same thing about the mirror image pattern, I have been doing that and just figured that was the same way everyone else does it. Looks like I invented a new technique.
