I have a question but first I'd like to thank Mike for this fantastic turtorial and Gilles for putting it into and e-book. I luv the smiling eyes and I'm looking forward to carving this cheerful little fella. My question is what size block of wood do I start with? Unless I missed it somewhere in the thread the first instructions are to knock the corners off...off of what? Sorry, the answer is probably right in my face yet, I'm not getting it.

Mike mentioned he started from scraps of wood, and that's the mesurement... any piece of wood is good, and that's why the dimensions are given as half way, center, third of the distance, etc...

I like to use 4 inches pieces of wood, but we all have favorite sizes. The important point is the technique. Start with a size you're comfortable with.

Have fun,

Gilles

Ok, as I mentioned in another post, I converted the ebook to a PDF file so that it can be downloaded and used on your own computer.

I suggest that you use this PDF reader if you want to see the instructions and the pictures side by side, unless you already have a better solution or don't mind reading the pages one by one.

Thanks so much for the guidance, Gilles and for the converted PDF ebook. It's brilliant!
