Default Mtn. Man Mask(Thread #3)

The first pic I am starting to separate some of the mass of the beard ,using a #9/15mm gouge and cutting down and rounding right into the neck area.In the second pic. stop cut, slightly undercut the bottom of the mustache ,1/16" inch or so deep with a detail knife. The third pic.I am using a #9/8mm gouge and cutting the lower lip in ,leave this nice and fat, this will give you room to experiment with different lines for expressions. The fourth pic. use a #7/8mm gouge upside down and take the edge off from the previous cut. Pic five with a detail knife make that three way stop cut to remove a triangle shape create a nice shadow for some depth in this area.

Looking forward to viewing the next phases of your carving Mark. My Jeff Phares - Carving the Human Face, just arrived in the mail today so I'm pumped to get started. For me, this is a major project so I'll be interested in your progress.
