Default Mtn. Man Mask (Thread #14, eyes)

Pic #1) Stop cuts made for bottom part of eyes.

Pic #2) knife I use for the next series of cuts. These knifes are also excellent for eyes on very small carvings where you are just using the very tip of the knife. And the best part about them is they never need sharpening.

Pic #3)Slide the knife in and cut down from the top to the stop cut made in the bottom eyelid. Maintain the roundness. Two cuts like this on each eye should do it. *When you are working in such small areas like this the fewer passes with the knife/gouge is best to keep it from getting to messy.

Pic #4) I have drawn in where the bags of the eyes will be.

Pic #05 The line you see outlining the bag under the eye is actually a stop cut I made with a #7/10mm palm gouge the same I am using in this picture for the removal cut. The stop cut was made in a succession of cuts with the gouge.

Same here, I just carved my way to this thread (14) yesterday. I really got a lot off the sections on the way you do eyes.

Thank you for a great series of tutorials.

Tony, good for you actually carving right along with Mark. Boy it sure looks good to me, course your work is great anyway! That is quite an impressive holding device you have for your carving. Did you make it yourself--it looks like it would be a very helpful assistance in holding your work. If you did make it would you mind sharing how you made it? If not custom made then where one might purchase such a device?
Again I really like your progress on Mark's tutorial on the Mountain Man Mask. Also, what is the title of the reference book shown in your image?
