| | Re: I may regret this! Eye tutorial. Scott... Thanks for all your hard work. Great information and a lot of outstanding tips. I've already saved it to my tutorial file for future reference. And, you're absolutely right, the teacher always learns more than the student!

| | Re: I may regret this! Eye tutorial. Scott, after studying your tutorial and comparing it to the previous spirit I find a difference. I'm sure there are others that have noticed as well. In the prev pic, the spirit appears to have 2 (two) eye lids (at least it does to me). I have put the 2 pix together and they are definitely different. Is the reason for this due to the difference in size of the two carvings? I'm sure that's why everyone made such comments aboput your eyes on the first one. I wanted to include the pic but I guess I can't the way the forum is set up.

| | Re: I may regret this! Eye tutorial. It's always helpful to see another carvers technique. This approach will be very helpful when I approach smaller carvings. You put alot of time putting this together and we appreciate it.

You win the prize! As I stated somewhere this is how I do eyes on small carvings. The eyes on the wood spirit are done somewhat differently as it is quite a bit bigger and is easier to work. I would have done this tutorial on the bigger eyes but all I had for wood was the triangle blank to work with.
It looks like I'll have to do another on the bigger eyes when I get a larger chunk of wood. More than anything, I am using this tutorial as a test bed to see if what I did made any sense to any one but me.
I have a larger carving in the planning stage and will try to do a tutorial on the eyes in it.
Thanks for all the comments and I hope you all find this useful.

| | Re: I may regret this! Eye tutorial. Scott, you sir are a gentleman, please don't get me wrong, I truly appreciate your tutorial, heck, I'm so new to this great hobby that it will prove very beneficial to me as well as to many others. However, It was the way you did those eyes on the big fellow that blew me away. Please don't misundrstand me, I'm not trying to be critical, such is not the case. I do however, still look forward to the day you show the other approach. Thanks again.
