| | Re: Mark Gargacs "Elf Ornament DVD I got the Elf DVD in the mail yesterday. Watched it before supper. Started a carving after supper. The video quality is really great. The closeup work is better than I have ever seen on any video. And of course the instructor, he can guide you thru a carving very well.
I think anyone that watches the video will be successful at carving the Elf, as well as learning many new techniques for carving a face.
Thank you Mark. Well Done. |

| | Re: Mark Gargacs "Elf Ornament DVD Thanks, Mark, Bob, & Cliff
Anyone interested in viewing a test run, sample clip is welcomed to do so.
Once at my website click on "Tutorials" then, "Test development item." The arrow button to the far lower left of the screen will activate the sample clip.
There will also be some major changes at the site within the next couple of weeks, which will include a page with a "Video Tutorial'. This will be a step x step, subject yet to be choosen, and will run approx. 1/2-hour to 45 mins. Free to all with high speed access. The test run of the sample clip will only be viewible for a short time to allow for additional construction at the site, but will return along with the" Video Tutorial within the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for looking!
Mark

| | Re: Mark Gargacs "Elf Ornament DVD Excellent Mark - I am asking for the Elf tutorial from my family for Father's Day based on all the strong reviews. If you are looking for a subject for your online tutorial video - WOODSPIRIT in a hiking staff get's my vote. It is probably one of the most carved subjects so there is a LOT of interest AND yours are some of the best I've ever seen!! Please please please do this. If not - then do one for sale and I know you'll sell many. !

Thanks Chuck,
I beleive your right, a woodspirit probably is carved more than any other subject. A woodspirit or Mtn. Man hiking staff sounds like a good idea. Its right up there at the top of the list for the "Video Tutorial" at the website.
I was also thinking of a Santa or Elf basswood goose egg, or a pirate carved in a basswood goose egg. Some other ideas were, a woodspirit, wizard, Mtn. Man, or Indian face carved in full relief, in cottonwood bark or in some bottle stoppers. I am also considering a detailed tutorial on the following: Heavy lidded eyes, different nose & mouth shapes, or roughing out a small Mtn. Man or Indian bust in basswood, in the round.
It would be great to get some more feedback on a subject matter. We will be shooting the video late next week.
Thanks everyone for your comments.

| | Re: Mark Gargacs "Elf Ornament DVD Thank you Chuck. I think you'll find the DVD very informative and detailed on carving these elves. I also feel there is enough infromation on this DVD to carve and add some of your own creative and personal touches to the ornaments. It's fun expermenting!
The mini tutorial at my website will be on carving a woodspirit in a basswood dowel. The dowel measures 12-inches x 1.5-inches in diameter. The techniques learned carving in the dowel can be transformed into a walking stick or cane, or there;s pleanty of room on the basswood dowel to carve two woodspirit's, then cut the dowel in half to use as walking stick or cane toppers. Anyways I am looking very forward to this tutorial and think it's going to be alot of fun.
Thanks for your interest!
