| | "Carving The Minature Flat Plane Santa " Here is the minature flat plane Santa tutorial I have gotten together ..
It is Basswood and stands 3 1/4 inches high and 1 3/8 inches wide .. A great Santa for ornaments or other ..

1. The tools you need .. ( knife and v - tool )
2. The Pattern ( enlarge to 3 1/4 inches high) ...
3.The Bandsaw cutout ...
4. After bandsawing shape .. cut a 1/4 inch opening between legs ..
5. From the front of the figure .. measure 1 3/4 from the top of figure and draw a line across the front of it as shown ..( this is where the beard stops )

| | Re: "Carving The Minature Flat Plane Santa " 6. Turn carving around and measure 1 1/2 inches down from the top and draw a line on the back ... ( this will be the hair line for the back )
7.On the side of the carving , measure 1 1/8 inches down and put a mark ..Then from that front beard line .. draw a line to the side mark and do the same from the hair line on the back of the carving as shown in the photo .. Do the same on the opposite side of the figure ..
8. Begin removing wood to separate the head from the sides ...
9. Remove wood from the front of the figure under the beard ..
10. Remove wood from the back of the figure under the hair line ..

12. continue to remove wood from all 4 sides of the figure ...
13. Beginning to round off the head ..
14. From the front of the figure .. begin to remove wood from both sides of the face to create the nose ...
15.Darw a line 3/4 inches down from the top of the figure for the nose ..

22. cut to separate the hair from face and for creating ear ..
23.Draw for ear ..
24. Remove wood from outside of ear ..
25. Remove wood from inside of ear ..

27. Draw a line from the edge of the nose down ( as shown ) and then up to separate the upper cheeks from the beard .. ( do on other side )
28. cut to separate beard from cheeks ..
29. Draw mustache ..
30. Remove wood from outside of mustache ...

38. cut to separate cuff from arm ..
39. Using v -tool .. create marks for cuff
( do the same on the other arm )
40. Begin shaping back of legs ..

47. cut to separate pants .. Then make some small v cuts on the left side of pants to indicate button openings ..
48. Cut some small v cuts on the left side of the pants for buttons as shown
49. Figure as it looks so far ..
50. Continue to shape the back of the head ...
