Default Carving Faces

For those interested in face carving, I have begun a new article on the subject.

http://www.littleshavers.com/Faces.html

It is under construction, but you may still enjoy it.

Very good article Rick. Thank you.

I try to carve a face of a woman and it comes out like some of the cowboys at the bottom!

I have been studying the Pete lacuir carvings in that other online magizine back issues.
http://carverscompanion.com/Ezine/BackIssues.html seams each issue has one pete leclir carving.
they are very comical, and i wish i could produce such comedy and expression as in such faces... guess it comes with time?

Yesterday afternoon, my 13 year old son and I spent an hour or so each carving a face practice stick from Jack Price's "Carving Small Characteres". I'd done a few in the past and he wanted to know how to do it. It's nice to spend one on one time with one of the kids. Not only did he learn something new, I figured out why my faces weren't coming out the way I wanted lately.

He's not a dedicated carver but he likes to see the carvings I've made so I do what I can to encourage him. If he decides to stick with it, who knows where he'll be in 20 years!

It works for me. At least "The Basics" and "Hands Part I." Can't say about the rest, didn't try them.
