Glad the tutorial helped you folks. If you see my carvings now, my whiskers look a lot different as I use various size gouges and the V tool is used to accent certain areas. The tutorial shown here is mainly done with a V tool and knife cuts.

Thanks fella's. This approach is fine for basic characters. I mostly go with various size gouges and accent some areas with a Vtool. As for the beard - nothing fancy there, just used a low profile gouge and made gouge dimples.
