Jim, that's a great first hillbilly! Nice cuts. The colors are ... vibrant. Not quite what I would have expected from a hillbilly, but to each his own. I learned a lot going through this tutorial, and the other one on creating a simple caricature. Definitely one of the best I've seen online.

Guess what? This is one of my favorite tutorials in pictures from Gene. So I couldn't resist and made an ebook from it. Again, I hope that Gene won't mind if I make this available. I find it important to give some tools for "wannabe" flat plane carvers... A Simple Hillbilly Just in case you didn't notice, you can print the book by clicking the printer button in the top menu bar. You can choose to print all or only a few pages from the book. I already made a couple hillbillies from this tutorial and will surely make a couple more when I have time. And I still need a reference when I do it. So that's why I decided to make an ebook from this tutorial anyway. And this guy still stands proud on a shelf in my place ![]() Enjoy, or re-enjoy this older tutorial from Gene. Giles, You did a great job on that hillbilly. This is one of my favorite tutorials, too. I've only carved one of them so far, but it won't be my last.
