| | A Beginners Tutorial On Carving A Simple Hillbilly Out Of A Block Of Wood Ok .. So here goes .. Another project for beginners .. A simple Hillbilly out of a block of wood ... But this one is a little bit more of a challenge for the beginner .. A figure with a hat ... So Iam going to make it as simple as possible .. So please bear with me because there are 60 photos involved where the last tutorial was 46 photo's ..

Good luck ..
The entire figure is carved from basswood with only a knife and a small v-tool ..
So here goes ..
Gene
1. The Block ( 1 inch x 1 inch x 6 inches high )
2. Draw for hat .. measure 1 1/2 inches from the top of the block and draw a line in the front of the block ..
Turn over to the back of the block and measure 2 inches from the top of the block and draw a line ..
connect the lines as in photo on both sides ..
3.Separate the hat from the body ..
4.In the front of the block . measure 2 inches down from the top of the
hat and draw a line for the bottom of the beard ..
5.From the bottom line of the beard . on both sides of the block draw a line connecting the back of the hat to the bottom of the beard as in photo ..
