| | Re: Aspen Cane/stick (roughing out) Pix#1) Results from the previous cuts. Pix#2) with the #9/6mm and separating between the browes. Pix#3) Results. Pix#4) Taking the #7/6mm gouge , flipped over and rounding into the previous cut, this is a stop cut. Pix#5) Finishing the stop cut.

| | Re: Aspen Cane/stick (roughing out) Pix#1) With the detail knife I am cutting in the face and hair line. Pix#2) Using the detail knife , I intersect this cut below the hat. Pix#3) Cutting in with the knife at an angle to the face for the removal cut. Pix#4) With the #7/6mm gouge flipped over , and working just off the tip of the nose, cut down at at outward angle to the face and cut in the outter wings of the nostrils. Pix#5) Cutting in the smile line with the detail knife.

Claude | Thanks Claude, I buy all my aspen from an eagle scout, his folks own property in the Mtns. He debarks and air dries these sticks, when I receive them , they are ready to carve.

| | Re: Aspen Cane/stick (roughing out) Your spoiling us Mark! I remember seeing an earlier version of this carving in a stick and wondered how you detailed it so well. Unfortunately my sticks are mostly 3-5 feet long and 1-2 feet in diameter. I'll be digging up this tutorial again when time allows.
