Default Aspen cane/stick (finishing up)

Pix#1) center lines penciled in for the eyes. Pix#2) The eyeballs are carved in. Pix#3) More detail carved in above the eye's, and rounding more at the brow ridge. Pix#4) I am taking a #7/6mm palm gouge and starting to work on the badger fur cap and giving it some more shape,(making it look fit to his head)

Pix#1) I have decided to try something different in the texturing at the cap, I have taken a #7/6mm palm gouge, flipped it over, pushed in at an angle, and slightly undercuted, then turned the gouge right side up, and made removal cuts under the undercuts. I am trying to get more of a heavy, matted, like look, still trying to decide if I like it, or not? Pix#2) overview. Pix#3) a small section off to the right of the cap needs to be textured yet.

Pix. of the finished carving. The carving measures 3.5" from the top of his cap , to the tip of his beard, and 1.5" across

Mark ,
I like it alot. The textrue gives it almost a mushroom type look , that I think you could really play with.
The WCI article and this two awesome projects in the same week .

Thanks
Garry

REALLY REALLY NICE!!! Thanks Marc. I've not yet gotten a hold of the latest WCI but I can't wait to see your article there too. You are a really talented artist and carver. Thanks for sharing these step by step tutorials here. What a terrific resource. If this is any indication of the quality of your online woodspirit in basswood course I may just have to pony up the $50 and sign up.

I especially like your aging and weather worn wrinkled work around the eyes & cheeks.

Thanks again!

Thanks all, who followed, commented, and supplied feedback, to help make my future tutorials even better, also thanks to Gary and AL, for the compliment given on my WCI article, Al that's a real nice large mouth bass you had critiqued, looks like it did well in the judges corner.
