Default 5 minute wizard

Is there a link showing the steps for carving the "5 minute wizard" here somewhere ? I've seen the you tube video (YouTube - Carving The 5 Minute Wizard Part 1) but can't quite see how to get the forehead and eyes to work out.

Thanks.

Me too. I just finished my first one and am pleased with the results, except for the eyes.

John, This afternoon/evening I'll try to work up 3 or 4 sequential photos of a quick way to put eyes on the wizard.

Thanks ! I've tried making some simple V-cuts, and some raised triangular areas - but neither of mine look like eyes.

I'm also having problems with the forehead. It's generally 1/4 of a face too far to the rear, but otherwise rounded. I suspect the forehead problem is due to starting the nose too close to the hat, making the top-of-the-nose cut too flat, and then making the eyes wrong. But I've made 3 - being careful not to cut too much off the forehaed, and still end up with a set-back looking forehead. Any ideas ?

The wizards that I carve are small. I usually use either 1/4"x1/4" or 1/2"x1/2" stock, and carve on the corner. The area for the eyes is small. There are 3 ways that I can do the eyes. I can paint them on, use an eye punch, or carve them. "A" in the photos basically shows the nose and the eye area after the first few cuts. "B" shows a simple painted eye. "C" shows the eye punch followed with the paint. "D" shows a simple carved eye. In this simple carved eye, one must first make an "Arched" knife cut. The second knife cut is another "arched" knife cut about 1/16th " lower than the first one (upper eyelid). The third knife cut is the bottom of the eye itself. Forth and fifth knife cut are small triangles removed from the corners of the eyeball.

This is how I do the eyes when they are about the size of a grain of rice.

Thanks Tom. Your picture and instructions for the carved eye are exactly what I needed.

ps: I also see from your pictures why my foreheads were turning out set back. I was sloping the nose from front to back and then cutting the corner off above the bridge of the nose to make the forehead. Then when I cut in the eyes & brow ridge, the forehead ended up back a bit. Cutting in the eyes before sloping the nose should definitely fix the problem I was having.

Thanks again !
