Default Viking carving

I am at the place in my carving where I need to learn in order to progress in my carving. Since I have not left my home in the last three months, due to disabilities the car vibration cause my right leg to go totally paralyzed. Sometimes for weeks before I thaw out, ... meaning... I can not go to any classes. I depend 100 percent on people here and others that charge online classes. I been carving now for almost three years and sitting on a major commission for a master craftsman, which I am scared to touch to be honest. I am taking one of Lynns classes OutWestWoodCarving ....and I decided to do his viking ...I was amazed at the fact that I have almost five pages so far of things that,.... I did not know but each thing will help my carving skills improve. And I think he is funny but super instructor. This viking program has got me interested in all the viking weapons and some history but the darn viking is just too cute, I think everyone should try him! My thanks from my heart to Lynn and wife for their time and effort. I am busy although trying my best not to copy Lynns work, as I see it all over the net and including contest. So I am enjoy both the research and the project. Just a note....you can learn some heavy duty things from you tube to master carvers on the net and do not have to leave the house, you just need to be,,,, willing to learn new things.

Hello DiLeon. I can't wait to see your Viking when finished. You are a very positive person and your story is inspiring to anyone that might have health challenges. Where there's a will, there's a way. I agree totally with the youtube statement you made, there are some excellent video's to learn from. Make it a great and safe day. Best regards. Paul

I have been following along with Lynn too. I think I might want to try some Vikings myself and my daughter has a book "The Art Of How To Train Your Dragon", which is art from the movie where Lynn got his inspiration. I'm thinking of of doing one of the other Vikings in the cast. I think it's OK for you to try and "copy" Lynn's project. That would be the best way to learn and then try another with your own slant on the idea. As long as people aren't trying to pass of copies of Lynn's design as their own, I don't see any harm.

You're more than welcome to copy this project as that's why it's on the Blog.

Lynn I know I can copy .... but you said a few times,... do your own version. I have the thought that if you are new or trying something that you have no idea what you are doing, then you should copy the work 100 percent. But I can take your pattern, and your drawing and make my own version, mistakes and all...smile and follow you along video to video. That way my little viking can be apart of the tribe and not a clone, and I still get to make tons of notes....and learn the lessons.

I started watching the Viking. I'm up to about part 6 and then went to the first one on how to do a cowboy head. I'm book taught and this is like finding the wood carving bible. I heard from others at my carving club that attach pieces to their carvings, but I always tried just using one piece of wood because I was afraid they would fall apart. Looks a lot easier to work with the head detached. My next one I'll try Lynn's techniques! A million thank you's!! So much to learn!!
