Default Results since starting

Thanks to this forum I have been able to apply a lot of what you carvers have shared, particularly for us 'apprentices'. Some of my early efforts have gone in to the woodheater as they were certainly just part of the learning curve. these five have been the result of the last five months.
Would love to be able to attend classes but there ain't any in within a bulls roar of here, so thanks to you contributors for your invaluable input.
The wood I use is Poplar which I believe is a variety of the American
cottonwood.

Nicely done. I believe your almost ready to move beyond the beginner stage with those carvings. I've carved my share of poplar but I think it may we a different variety than on the east coast of Canada. With your next carvings, allow the gouges to bring a little more wood away from the neck area so you can provide some more depth to your carving. Your eyes came along really well. Try going a little more in the socket and I think you'll find it will enhance the facial features some more for you. Keep at it, your much further ahead than I was when I first started.

Thanks to you all for your replies and encouragement. It is good to know that others have an interest in what one does. Thanks Patrick that's the sort of input I need. I did smile when Ron T liked the way all my faces are different, Ron if I tried to carve two the same I'm sure they'd be entirely different, but one day---
Will post my next effort when finished.
Bob
