Default Monty Walsh/ Lynn's video discussion thread..

I was thinking it would be fun or at least useful to have a thread going for those working on this piece. I hope this is an o.k. idea.

I am thinking real hard on starting this piece. Actually I have printed the pattern, and the first thing I did with that was increase the given pattern by 115% to get the body at approx. 10". For the front view...width, I sort of took a stab at the width needed. My wood is 3 5/8 wide, and I added/glued about 1" to the bottom portion, because I wasn't sure the original width would be enough for the boots to be angled out and the chaps. So...I am going to be away from this project until after the weekend. It looks like I could learn a ton by following Lynn's instructions.
How about it, how many of you are tackling this project and what kind of things are you encountering that you would like to share?

I wish you luck Kris, I think this is Lynn's best series to this date. It seems like they just keep getting better and better.

Thanks Tom, looks like this thread is not going anywhere, but I thought it was worth trying. I think I can work myself through the project without too much trouble.

I am not doing the project at this time but I have watched all the videos. In one of them Lynn gave all the dimensions. I do not remember which one it was. It did include the width at the feet.

Good luck with your version of Monte. I hope to give it a try later this summer.

Looks like lots of peeps on this thread. Just wanted to state that I did finish a cowboy using the video and was pretty pleased with the results. You peeper's should check his video's out if you haven't already.

I did his Gabby and was pleased with my results.I have printed out his Monty Walsh pattern but that is as far as I went. I decided to do the chuck wagon cook and for me that is quite a challenge. I am not good with hands and he is holding a cup in one hand and a coffee pot in the other. I also am following his new video on the horse

Yeah, Lynn's "teaser" on the horse was interrupted by the Dayton show. I never thought of cutting the horse in two parts and now I know. I watch all of Lynn's videos and he has inspired me to move away from sticks and canes for a while and try mt hand at "in the round". I just received my first order of bass wood today from Heinecke. Now I have to start. I don't think I will be doing any of his cowboy stuff but the techniques I've learned will get me started on my 1800's loggers. After all, I'm in Oregon. Thanks Lynn.
