Default On-Line Carving Classes

Hi Carvers

I invite you to visit my on-line classroom. This is a new venture for me and I am very excited about it.

Many carvers, especially beginning carvers, do not have the time nor the money to experience one of the wonderful carving seminars that are held around the country.

This on-line class may be a way to begin a joyful carving experience.

For more information, visit http://www.cyndijoslyn.com/classes/tannenbaum.html

Happy Carving!

This has all the appearance of a commercial add for a business. If this was for a free help deal for beginning carvers it would be great! If we are going to have to start wading through adds on this website as we do in magazines or TV then we will all loose.

I suggested WCI start another site with a link in this one of online carving classes. I think the idea is great for people like me that are a long way from shows or classes. Especially with all the great carvers out there, maybe some caricature carvers like CCA etc...

Baldy,
Cyndi asked me before posting it; she's a well-respected Fox Chapel and Wood Carving Illustrated author. I agree that it isn't right for a new member to come on board and post a commercial post, but Cyndi's active on the board (and always ready to help out other carvers), so I told her to go ahead and post about her classes.

Hi Ho, I'll take your idea to our next editorial team meeting. I think it's a great idea!

Bob

When I was a beginning carver, I was extremely hungry for information of all kinds. I wanted to find out where to buy good wood and what were the best tools and how can I become a better carver.

I wasted some money on cheap tools and wood that was hard as a rock. I bought carving books with confusing directions. Sidetrips I might have avoided had I had the benefit of a carving community with which to confer.

My intention in sharing information on my on-line classes was not blantant commercialization of this site. It was merely to share a new resource that some others might find useful.

If this has offended someone, I apologize.

I think the idea of a special resource with information on classes and where tools and wood is available would be invaluable especially to beginners.

Just remember every post will not apply to every reader. Perhaps the best approach is to take what applies to you leave the rest for others.

For whatever it is worth, I think this could be a good thing to explore. Dave also has a good idea. I know I have enjoyed Cyndi's articles in WCI, especially the one on hearts. I have carved about 8 as gifts, and have some blanks ready to go. They have been a big hit!, only I like to make big plump hearts. But that is what carving is all about.

Jim

The greatest satisfaction I get through my carving books and articles is to give someone an idea or inspiration that they can take and add their carving personality to and make uniquely their own.

I would love to see some of your "plump" hearts.

Thanks for sharing.
Happy carving!

I think that both Cindi and Hi Ho have excellent ideas! I know there are several carvers that would love to take classes from but will never have the opportunities! Bob, definitely take this into consideration. Hopefully others will jump on board!!
