Default Aspen cane in progress

The gentleman who commissioned me for this mtn. man cane asked for a few works in progress photos. I thought I would also share them on the forum. I will post more as I make progress on the carving. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for sharing them Mark, I love seeing your work, and to watch it come together is even better! Wish I could sit at your elbow and watch you work for a while, but the pics will have to do.

Its hard to believe your carving is so small. Hope to see the completed cane as I'm always interested in reference photos.

Colin, The wood is quaking aspen. These are saplings that are from Como, CO. elavation about 10,000 feet 95 miles southwest of Denver. I dont harvest these myself. I buy all my aspen and brisclecone pine from a Eagle boy scott whose family owns property up there.

Thanks for the work in progress pics Mark. I'm sorry I couldn't make Creede I'm hoping to go next year, you should do one of these then, if you go. How do you get the Aspen, that dark. The Aspen I have used is really white.

Mel , This aspen is very white. For photographing I made adjustments for the lighting to help bring out the pixs. more.
