I'm working on a totem with a Mohawk Indian from the top of my head. I tried a web serch on "mohawk" but most of the pix are young guys with mohawk hairdos. My design inspiration was my nephew who sports one. Most of the Indian photos are of the Plains/Western Indians. I guess the Eastern Indians were mostly absorbed when the West was still wild. Any help would be appreciated.

I Googled on images with "native american" and mohawk as keywords. Also try "native american and "northeast". It's not a Mohawk but it'll give you somehting to work with. longhouse: Iroquois man near a longhouse --*Britannica Online Encyclopedia Bob L |

Well.......How about a Mohawk haircut? As they were an eastern tribe their hairdos were all pretty much the same. Here's a link to a figure of Magua, from the Last of the Mohicans, that I did. Maybe this will give you some ideas. OUT WEST WOODCARVING: March 2007

The Mohawk hairstyle was also called a roach and was warn in battleto make them look fearce. You could try googling roach hair style. I think the iriquois (spelling) ware this style.

Bob L and Lynn, Thank you very much for your assisted searches. I've found a couple of pictures that I could use. The carving is coming along and I'll be sure to post pictures, though it will be a while since I am very slow.

Hello Mel, Thanks for the search. When I did it, I must have just typed in Mohawk. Anyway, the pictures are a great help. It tells me there is no one way to do their hair style.
