Great source for reference photos - Flickr

Flickr is a tremendous site for reference material and ideas. Probably the largest assortment of photographs on the net.

Say you are interested in classic European church carvings:

Flickr: The Church Furnishings Pool - almost 11,000 photos in that pool alone!

Totems:

Flickr: The Totems & Other Wood Carving Pool

Very easy to search for individual photos or groups (pools) that focus on one subject. One tip - if you see a photo you like, look on top of the photo for "all sizes" - many times you can download the photo in the original size. If this is not present - the photo is protected by the photographer. Please respect the rights of both the photographer and the artist who created the original work of art if that is the case...
