Wow, Keoma, GO FOR IT! When I was a kid still in Cub Scouts, our Den put on a marionette show and we made (well, mostly or parents made, but we helped) a whole cast of marionette characters. Some of ours were sewn/stuffed dolls and others were carved wooden ones. I went back in "memory-ville" and found this old link to where I think we got our inspirations from. This old two part series shows a lot of how they are made and how the operating systems work. Also tips on dressing and accessorizing, the little people!

One important thing we found was weighting the marionettes became very important. We applied lead weights to the feet, hands and in some instances the bodies. Otherwise they just don't seem to appear to move naturally. The weight application was a matter of trial and error, mostly before the costumes were put on, but some had to be changed after they got "dressed" as the clothing changes the way the joints function. They were very frustrating, but also a LOT of FUN!!!

Keoma, you are already making them, just without the strings.
I think you're about to embark on a new beginning.

Thank you for the link Al...very much! Good point about the weights...I would have figured it out...after many many attempts! You just saved me a bundle of time!
Thank you Thor A few things I need to differently...but I think maybe I can pull it off.

I thought "going back to the roots" meant getting out the old hair bleach again?

Go for it on the marionette. I am sure your talents will provide a really nice character.
The video on that marionette site alone should inspire folks to try this out.
What a hoot!!!
