Default A few carvings

Your masks are amazing they must take some time to do.
My sons has asked me to carve him a Jappenes Hunya Mask .
Any advice for me before i start on this carving and how i can hold or support it and would it be best to carve the face and then chop out the back of it .
I have got half a log to have a go on and was thinking about taking a chainsaw to it to take the bulk of it away.
What do you think .

Everyone! This guy got me started woodcarving! I walked up on him about a year ago and was just curious at first. He gave me my first piece of Cottonwood Bark, I carved a House or something ( Yes I still have it. Keep on Carvin Bigarm, you are doin fine! Brandon
