Mr. Yooper, don't disparage the size of some of our "undiscovered" large snappers.....when I was a kid, back in '59, working at the old scout camp Red Buck, near Munising, one of my jobs was to help run food up the chain of lakes to outpost campers.

I was riding in the bow of a small 12 foot canoe-like motorboat, and as we were working our way through a narrow and rather shallow channel, we motored right over a verylarge snapper. I was sitting in the front seat and could look over the gunwales to see some of the carapace on the right side and some on the left (that's starboard and port for Squarebriggs).

Now, that was at the waterline, not the gunwales, but that critter was still probably almost 30" across. Haven't seen one that big since, but they are out there in some of the more remote lakes.

I did see a very large snapper on a lake in Sread Eagle Wi . THe lake is Frog lake and that turtle was about as round as a wash tub. I would still say there are alot of them out there and being not seen alot is the reason they are so big. All I can say is: I dont want to be on the reciveing end of them jaws lol
