Really nice green man I have to try one of those one of these days. The only suggestion I have, and it is only a suggestion is to give him eyes. When you give a carving eyes you give it sole.

I'm impressed you decided to start your first greenman with walnut. The carving looks great!

Default Thanks Claude..

I guess it is like my wife said sometimes it`s better not knowing about some things, such as types of wood and such. If I would have known how hard hickory was I probably would not have carved the walking stick for my friend shoot my fingers are still stiff. The piece of walnut was the only piece I had to use when I started the carving so we will see what happens...Thanks again...Bruce

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.

Nice job so far Bruce. I have and LOVE that book. I have one of Shawn Cipa's sticks partially completed and intend to do 2 of these greenmen as corner pieces on the door molding to our porch.

I love walnut as a wood but have yet to try carving it. I have a large walnut tree in front of our house that I am collecting branches when they fall to use as hiking sticks. Want to carve woodspirit & greenman faces into them. Eventually.

They can get a hold on ya!

Jack o' the Green' as he is sometimes known, The Harvest Lord'....

I love carving The 'G' man, one of my favs!!!

The first one I carved was by hand, took me 2 days, now I carve them as demos at shows, 20 mins with a chainsaw!

Be sure to post a picture when its finished, it will look great with a sheen!

dick

ChuckT, I notice your Brandenberge Green Man, Germany.

Yeah - Dick. Colin noticed it too. Wish I had carved this one but its just a pic of the real thing, but one of my primary inspirations. I want to carve it into a walking stick one day. One of my fav G men images.

Regards,
ChuckT
