| | Re: wood spirit Sharon,I really like this old found root you carved! You did a excellent job carving this wood spirit in it for I know how hard old roots are to carve by carving several myself. I like the face expression on this old guys face plus the beard and his hair.
Just a all around very neat carving on you behalf plus I know also how hard it is trying to get a nice natural finish on such wood buttttttttt Ohhh you did fine!!
Forrest

| | Re: wood spirit Thankyou Mike, Cliff, Geardog and Forrest for the nice comments. I made dolls out of polymar clay( Fimo,Sculpty, etc.) for alot of years.I think that helped alot with carving. Also made trees with faces on rocks with faces out of polymar clay and also out of paper clay.Mom used to let my sis and I play with plasticine clay at the kitchen table when we were really little. We were heavily influenced by the movie, Babes In toyland, and anything Disney.Had a vivid picture in my mind as a teenager of the Ents in the Lord of the Rings books and always wanted to do stuff like that.My Dad worked for foresty, so we were out in the state forest alot growing up.My sister and I always imagined the trees were alive and there was probably gnomes and fairies running around out there. She's an artist too and an art teacher now. Also knew a nice man as akid who carved woodspirits.all these influences have helped me alot. Got a long way to go though.Hope this isn't to much info. thanks again, ohyeah all you are great inspirations to me! |
