Talking Wizards Dragon Staff

After a lot of hard work and a considerable amount of time, this wizards dragon staff is progressing to a point that you can actually tell what it is going to be. I have been sawing and chipping away at this for months!!!

The wood is Cherry and began as a 2" x 8" plank, x 8' long, I cut a foot off the end and used the wood to glue additions to the head piece on prior to carving. They will be the base for the horns of the beast. This stage is rough yet, lots of detailing and shaping to do yet as well as some other gems, yet to be discussed. The front scales have to be refined in size and shape, and the side scales need shaping and texturing yet. The dorsal scales or plates have to be textured as well, and the head has to be refined and scaled.

I am happy with how it is turning out but it has been exausting work , I'll power carve it for a day and have to rest and recover for a week or more. Now that I'm into detail, I'm getting excited, and can't wait to get at it each day. The eyes will be special, so we'll say no more about those until we get to them and I have several "special" features to be included as well, so stay tuned.

Hope you enjoy the project.

Bob

That is a really great piece Bob. I hope you will publish the finished work in the "walking sticks and canes" category.

Ditto! I have been wanting to do something similar, but you've given me some better ideas! I love the detail on the scales and such! Really great staff!

You have really accomplished a lot already with this staff. I love the details you've just drawn in so far. It will be wonderful when it has a finish on it. Cherry is such beautiful wood, but hard as it can be.
I'll be watching.....I want one.

Hi Bob,

Wow - this sure is amazing. Great attention to detail and balance. I know that's typical of your work and that's what is so neat about seeing your posts. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Mark
