| | Wizard WIP Title: Wizard (Temporary)
Medium: Basswood Roughout by Mark Gargac
Size: 14" Tall
Hi All:
In July I took Mark Gargac's carving class at Creede, CO., the last day of class I bought another rough-out from Mark to take home with me.
truely hoping that I'd retained everything Mark taught in class. Funny how one thinks they'll remember! Here's it's nearning the end of September and I'm finally getting to it. Fortunately, I recently bought Marks Mountain Man CD, which has been a really great refresher course.
Here is my progress so far, I've cleaned up the rough-out and started working on the hat, nose and skin wrinkles where they meet the nose wings. Lot's to do, but I think it's going to be both fun and challenging. |

Hi GaryMc, Thank you too, my next update should show a lot more definition to the face.
Hi Gene, Thank you, and I'll post more updates as I progress.

Boy you have a sniffer--it's a 70 year old cedar chest (46" x 21") that the wizard is resting on. My hubby's mom made it when she was in High School in wood shop. It still has the wonderful scent of cedar and I keep my blankets in it.
I ask her how was it she got to take wood shop? She said girls could take wood shop when she was in high school. Boy I sure don't remember that being offered in the 60's at my high school. Probably just as well, not sure I would have been interested. LOL
