Default WIP New Swedish Suitor's Spoon

This is the new Suitor's Spoon I'm working on. It is 9" long, carved from 3/4" poplar board stock purchased at Home Depot. The spoon was completely roughed out with a hand ax. My accuracy is really improving. I'm getting real close to being able to "hew to the line". Even the dip between the spoon stem and the bowl was done with the ax. Still lots of knife work left and design elements to add. If real life doesn't interfere too much, I hope to finish it this weekend.

Nice design. That's amazing what you can do with an ax! Tricky looking wavy grain from the side, there - have fun with that!

Thanks, Laura and Mottles. The wavy grain hasn't been a problem so far. Poplar is so forgiving.

Here are the next photos.

Thanks, Bob and Gene.

Thanks, David. I've become quite fond of putting little details on the back of the spoon bowl. Now I've just got to watch myself to make sure I don't over-do it.

Very nice. I might have to go buy a poplar board and give one a try.
