Very nicely done Ron, however it's your willow sticks that really grabbed my attention. I don't think I have ever seen the contrasting wood of willow carved in that fashion. Where in the world did you come up with that style of carving?

Thank you all for your kind, generous and supportive posts.

I wanted to do something of my own design and my "Hooker needs help" is my final "Maiden w/ Hibiscus in Her Hair." By posting these sticks, I wanted to show mt progress. On my first, I kept gettiing asked, "Is that a girl or a boy?" or it looks like a guy with long hair. Boy, women's faces sure are easy to look at but sure difficult to carve.

I'm not going to paint these but I will begin with "Hooker . ." since I've been given excellent advice here by board members.

I tend to carve small because my hands are weak and it's easier for me to shave or scrape off a high spot than try to cut down on a larger carving. That being said, I do prefer to carve hardwood as it holds detail well and is more forgiving when my hand slips.

The totem WIP is apricot, very hard, but very beautiful.

ElWoodTroll,

I'm glad you like my Diamond Willow sticks. A friend, snowbird from B.C., Canada, who I met in Yuma explained how he did his sticks and I followed and modified his style. The problem with doing a stick like my DW is they get locked away. My sister is afraid it will mget damaged so her's is wrapped up. I had to make her another stick for walking. LOL!

Well, I have to say that's a first. I never thought anyone would be refering to my stuff. I refer to everyone else's.

BTW, I visited Nova Scotia in my RV and loved it, Bay of Fundy, Halifax, The Highlands, and PEI too. Absolutely beautiful country and the most warm, welcoming and courteous people I have met.
